DIY expert transforms an old cabinet into a stunning Little Mermaid-inspired cocktail bar for only $135 – and reveals her secret for finding the perfect paint colour every time

A creative DIY enthusiast has shared how she upcycled a vintage wooden cabinet and transformed it into a gorgeous Little Mermaid-inspired cocktail bar.

Brooke Styles, from Queensland, told Daily Mail Australia she picked up the second-hand cabinet from Facebook marketplace for $50 and used affordable supplies from Bunnings Warehouse. 

‘The Little Mermaid was my favourite Disney movie growing up and all I ever wanted was her pink ballgown,’ she said in a TikTok video.

Brooke said the home project only cost around $135 and took three hours to complete.

She also documented the process from start to finish in a short video shared with her 1.4million TikTok followers who were amazed with the end result.

To recreate the colour of Ariel's pink ballgown, she used the Coloursmith app to customise her own colour by taking a photo from her childhood picture book

Two small $5.20 paint pots of the colour were then ordered through the app

Brooke started by removing the old handles and sanded back the entire surface of the cabinet to remove the varnish and any unwanted small holes were then filled using a pre-mixed putty.

‘I left the inside back wall unpainted to create a feature wall with a paper shell stencil using the same paint colour,’ she said.

‘This is definitely my favourite feature – it brought the theme together.’

The original legs and hardware were placed with gold-painted legs and a wine glass rack for added details.

The end result looked stunning and was the perfect addition to Brooke’s hidden Disney room in her home.

On social media Brooke is known for her incredible creativity and sharing ways to upcycle old furniture.

The now-viral TikTok video was flooded with comments from other users who admired the finished product.

‘That’s beautiful! You’re so talented and the colour is very pretty,’ one person wrote.

‘This is so creative! Amazing job, looks perfect!’ another added.
