The U.S. men head to Honduras on Wednesday night for what has become a critical game surprisingly early in World Cup qualifying.
Though the Americans are young, they are loaded with talent – a “golden generation” with players like Christian Pulisic, Gio Reyna, Sergino Dest and Weston McKennie playing at big clubs in Europe. But the USMNT has just two points after its first two games – including one at home.
There are 14 games in qualifying, which goes until the end of March. So there is plenty of time for the USMNT to make up ground on Mexico, Panama and Canada, which would secure spots at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar if qualifying ended today. But the Americans need to start turning it around fast.
Here’s what you need to know for Wednesday night’s game in San Pedro Sula, Honduras:
What time is the USMNT game?
Kickoff is at 10:30 p.m. Eastern.
What channel is the USMNT game on?
Telemundo and Universo will carry the game.
How to live stream USMNT vs. Honduras
Paramount+ and Universo.
Why is there no English broadcast of USMNT game?
Ask CBS Sports. The network owns the English-language TV rights to away World Cup qualifiers, and it makes the decision of how and where to air them.
Is the USMNT at full strength?
No. Regular starters Gio Reyna (hamstring), Sergino Dest (ankle) and Zack Steffen (COVID-19) are out, as is Weston McKennie, who was sent back to Italy early after breaking the team’s COVID protocols.
When are USMNT’s next World Cup qualifiers?
The USMNT returns next month, with games Oct. 7 (against Jamaica), Oct. 10 (at Panama) and Oct. 13 (against Costa Rica).
