LIVE market updates: The benchmark indices continued to consolidate for the third day in a row as they opened marginally in the red. Profit taking at all-time high levels and tepid global cues kept the market mood subdued.
BSE Sensex was down 36 points at 58,172 while NSE Nifty shed 18 points to trade at 17,333. Axis Bank, Infosys, M&M and Sun Pharma were the top Sensex losers while Kotak Bank, Bajaj Finserc and Airtel were the best gainers.
In the broader markets, the BSE Midcap index was unchanged while BSE Smallcap rose 0.2 per cent.
Sectorally, IT names continued to be under pressure while banking and financial names gained traction.
