A single mother who was caught breaching lockdown told police she needed to leave her apartment building to film a TikTok video.
The mother, 24, had joined a group of friends to make the social media video outside an apartment complex in Sydney on Friday night.
They were in a car when they were stopped by police. The driver filmed the ensuing encounter and uploaded the footage to TikTok.
The mother is seen in the video trying to explain to the officer that she had left her apartment because there was no Wi-Fi to film in the garage at the bottom of the complex.

‘We were doing a TikTok in the video, but there was no reception,’ she says. ‘So we came to drive out and back to get reception.’
An officer leans through the driver’s window, visibly unimpressed with the response.
‘Doing a TikTok video is not a reasonable excuse,’ she says.
Another video was uploaded to the social media platform showing the group of friends lined up against a wall brazenly going ahead with their plans to film a TikTok.
They break out into a dance before the two officers send them on their way.
‘When they breach you for doing a TikTok at the front of your building but it’s okay,’ a caption reads on the video. ‘It turned into a better one.’
Footage of the encounter angered social media users who were quick to criticise their actions.
‘This is why we are still in lockdown,’ one person wrote. ‘People need to stop doing stuff like this and just do the right thing.’
Another person wrote: ‘But was it worth it? Enough attention?’
The single mother remained unapologetic and responded: ‘Yeah it was actually’.
Other social media users defended the women.
‘I feel like TikToks is a reasonable excuse,’ one person wrote.
