Bypoll results 2022 live updates | BJP wins Rampur and Azamgarh Lok Sabha seats; AAP loses Sangrur

The Election Commission has so far declared results for six Assembly constituencies and three Lok Sabha seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party has won the Town Bardowali, Jubarajnagar and Surma Assembly seats from Tripura, and Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur as well as Azamgarh parliamentary seat. The party lost to YSRCP in Andhra Pradesh’s Atmakur constituency where Mekapati Vikram Reddy was declared winner.

Meanwhile, AAP conceded defeat in Punjab’s Sangrur Lok Sabha bypoll, congratulating SAD (Amritsar)‘s Simranjit Singh Mann on his victory. Durgesh Pathak, won the Rajinder Nagar Assembly bypoll for the party in Delhi.

Sudip Roy Barman of Congress has won the Agartala constituency, giving the party its sole member in the Tripura Assembly. The party is currently leading on the Mandar seat in Jharkhand.

Lok Sabha bypolls were held in Rampur and Azamgarh constituencies in Uttar Pradesh and Sangrur seat in Punjab. The other constituencies where Assembly bypolls were held were Rajinder Nagar in Delhi, Mandar in Jharkhand’s Ranchi district and Atmakuru in Andhra Pradesh.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has won the Lok Sabha seat of Azamgarh with the Election Commission of India officially declaring the result. Dinesh Lal Yadav won by a margin of more than 8,500 votes over Samajwadi Party’s Dharmendra Yadav.

Guddu Jamali of the BSP came third in the race for the parliamentary seat garnering 29.27% of the votes.

With the ruling BJP wresting two Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh from the Samajwadi Party in a bypoll, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said people have sent a message that they are not ready to accept dynastic and casteist parties, those who incite communal tensions and criminals.

Addressing a press conference at the State party headquarters here, Mr. Adityanath announced that BJP candidate Ghanshyam Lodhi won from Rampur and Dinesh Lal Yadav ‘Nirhau’ from Azamgarh.

However, an official declaration of the bypoll result in Azamgarh is awaited.

“The results of by-elections have given a signal about the outcome of the 2024 general elections,” the Chief Minister added.- PTI

BJP candidate Ghanshyam Lodhi on Sunday wrested the Rampur parliamentary seat from the Samajwadi Party, defeating his nearest rival by over 42,000 votes in a bypoll.

“Lodhi has won by over 42,000 votes,” Rampur District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar told reporters after giving the winning certificate to Lodhi.

Lodhi defeated SP candidate Mohd Asim Raja, considered close to party leader Mohd Azam Khan, who had won from the constituency in 2019.- PTI

Congress candidate Shilpi Neha Tirkey was leading by 11,245 votes as counting was underway on Sunday afternoon for the by-election to the Mandar assembly seat in Jharkhand’s Ranchi district, officials said.

After 11 rounds of counting, Tirkey was found to have secured 49,819 votes, while her nearest rival Gangotri Kujur of the BJP bagged 38,574 votes, as per the Election Commission.

AIMIM-backed Independent candidate Dev Kumar Dhan got 15,923 votes.

BJP wins three Assembly seats in Tripura; Congress wins Agartala

The ruling BJP won three Assembly seats and the Congress bagged one in the high-stakes by-elections in Tripura on Sunday, officials said.

Chief Minister Manik Saha won the bypoll to the crucial Town Bardowali seat by 6,104 votes. He secured 17,181 votes, which is 51.63% of the total votes polled, as per the Election Commission.

Congress candidate Sudip Roy Barman won the Agartala seat by a margin of 3,163 votes. He secured 17,241 votes, which is 43.46% of the total votes polled. With this victory, Roy Barman became the only Congress MLA in the assembly after the party’s complete rout in the 2018 assembly elections.

The CPI(M) lost its citadel of Jubarajnagar to the BJP by a margin of 4,572 votes. BJP candidate Malina Debnath got 18,769 votes (51.83%), while CPI(M)‘s Shailendra Chandra Nath secured 14,197 votes (39.2%).

In Surma, BJP’s Swapna Das won by a margin of 4,583 votes, securing a total of 16,677 votes (42.34%). Her nearest rival Baburam Satnami of TIPRA Motha got 12,094 votes (30.7%).- PTI

AAP wins Rajinder Nagar bypoll

 Aam Aadmi Party’s Durgesh Pathak on Sunday defeated BJP candidate Rajesh Bhatia by a margin of over 11,000 votes in Rajinder Nagar assembly bypoll here, officials said.

“All 16 rounds of counting have been completed. AAP candidate Durgesh Pathak has defeated his immediate rival Rajesh Bhatia (of BJP) by a margin of over 11,000 votes,” Delhi Chief Electoral Officer Ranbir Singh said.

According to official data, AAP’s Pathak polled 40,319 votes, while his nearest rival Bhatia managed to get 28,851 votes. The victory margin was 11,468 votes.- PTI

AAP candidate heads towards victory after 15th round of counting

AAP candidate Durgesh Pathak seemed to be heading for a victory with a comfortable margin of nearly 11,000 votes over his immediate BJP rival Rajesh Bhatia after 15 rounds of counting on Sunday for the Rajinder Nagar Assembly bypoll, according to official data.

The data showed that by the end of the 15th round, Mr. Pathak was leading with 10,911 votes over Mr. Bhatia.

Mr. Pathak’s lead was of 10,225 votes over BJP’s Mr. Bhatia after 14 rounds of counting which rose to 10,911 votes after 15 rounds.- PTI

In a setback to the Samajwadi Party, the Bharatiya Janta Party is leading in both the Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh that voted for bypoll on June 22. 

In Rampur, BJP candidate Ghanshyam Singh Lodhi is leading by over 34,000 votes against SP’s Asim Raja. In a closely contested triangular contest in Azamgarh, BJP’s Dinesh Lal Yadav Nirhua is leading by over 7,000 votes against Samajwadi Party’s Dharmendra Yadav, as per the Election Commission of India’s website at 1.30 p.m.- Anuj Kumar

SAD(A) candidate Simranjit Mann leads over AAP rival Gurmail Singh

SAD (Amritsar) candidate Simranjit Singh Mann was leading over his nearest AAP rival Gurmail Singh by a margin of over 4,500 votes from the Sangrur Lok Sabha seat, which is witnessing a close fight between the two nominees, according to initial trends on Sunday.

According to the trends available at noon, Mr. Mann has so far polled 2,31,985 votes, while AAP’s Gurmail Singh secured 2,27,394 votes.

In most of the rounds held so far, both the contestants have been neck and neck though Mr. Mann maintained a slender lead over Mr. Gurmail.- PTI

After an initial lead, Samajwadi Party is now trailing on both Rampur and Azamgarh Lok Sabha seats, counting for which began Sunday morning.

A close contest is being witnessed between the Samajwadi Party and BJP on both the seats.

According to available trends, SP candidate Mohd Asim Raja, who was earlier leading, is now trailing by 5,381 votes in Rampur behind his nearest rival, Ghanshyam Lodhi of the BJP. In Azamgarh, BJP candidate Dinesh Lal Yadav ‘Nirahua’ has taken a lead of 6,775 votes over SP’s Dharmendra Yadav.- PTI

BJP leads in Azamgarh, Samajwadi Party secures marginal lead in Rampur

In a tight contest, the BJP is now leading in the Azamgarh Lok Sabha bypoll. In Rampur, the Samajwadi Party has developed a small lead over the BJP candidate. 

According to the Election Commission of India website, BJP’s Dinesh Lal Yadav Nirhua is leading by over 7,000 votes against Samajwadi Party’s Dharmendra Yadav.  In Rampur, SP’s Asim Raja has built a lead of over 3,100 votes over BJP’s Ghanshyam Singh Lodhi.

Unlike Rampur, in Azamgarh the contest is triangular as the Bahujan Samaj Party has fielded Guddu Jamali. 

Mr. Jamali is trailing at the third spot but the counting pattern suggests that he has managed to cause some dent in the Samajwadi Party’s vote bank. So far, he has secured 27% of the votes while Mr. Yadav has got around 34 % votes. Mr Nirhua has won around 36 % votes.- Anuj Kumar

Sudip Roy Barman of Congress has been officially declared winner in Agartala constituency. Congress will now have sole member in the Assembly after its complete rout in 2018 Assembly elections.

AAP candidate leads over BJP’s by 5,000 votes after 7th round of counting

AAP candidate Durgesh Pathak galloped ahead with a lead of over 5,000 votes over his immediate rival, BJP’s Rajesh Bhatia, after seven rounds of counting on Sunday for the Rajinder Nagar Assembly bypoll, according to the official data.

Numbers showed that at the end of the sixth round of counting, Mr. Pathak was leading over Mr. Bhatia by a margin of nearly 3,000 votes, which rose to over 5,000 by the end of seventh round of counting.

Mr. Pathak was leading the tally over Mr. Bhatia by a margin of over 1,000 votes by the end of fifth round of counting.- PTI

YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) candidate Mekapati Vikram Reddy established a comfortable lead of 12,863 votes after three rounds of counting of votes polled in the June 23 by-election to Atmakur Assembly seat, amid tight security in SPSR Nellore district on Sunday.

The YSRCP candidate, brother of deceased sitting MLA and Industries and Information Technology Minister Mekapati Goutham Reddy, polled 15,582 votes and his nearest Bharatiya Janata Party rival G. Bharat Kumar Yadav 2719 votes. Bahujan party candidate Obulesu got 485 votes.

In close contest, BJP leads in Mandar bypoll in Jharkhand

BJP candidate Gangotri Kujur was leading marginally as votes were being counted for the Mandar by-election in Jharkhand’s Ranchi district on Sunday, officials said.

After two rounds of counting, Kujur was leading by 112 votes against her nearest rival of the Congress. She secured 8,041 votes, while Congress candidate Shilpi Neha Tirkey got 7,929 votes, they said.

AAP’s lead over BJP in fifth round of counting reduces to over 1,000 votes

 AAP candidate Durgesh Pathak was on Sunday morning leading over his BJP rival Rajesh Bhatia by a margin of over 1,000 votes at the end of the fifth round of counting of votes for the Rajinder Nagar Assembly bypoll.

At the beginning of the counting Pathak was leading with over 1,500 votes but the the lead margin reduced to 1,153 by the end of fifth round as counting of votes began on Sunday morning.

After the fifth round of counting, Mr. Pathak had secured nearly 50% of the votes counted, according to official data shared by authorities.- PTI

BJP leads in 3 seats, Congress in 1

 BJP candidates, including Chief Minister Manik Saha, were ahead in three seats, while the Congress was leading in one Assembly constituency as votes were counted in Tripura.

Mr. Saha was leading in the Town Bardowali seat by 4,363 votes after six rounds of counting. He has got 12,556, while his nearest rival Asish Kumar Saha of the Congress secured 8,193 votes, as per data provided by the Election Commission.

In the Agartala seats, Congress candidate Sudip Roy Barma was leading by 3,202 votes after eight rounds of counting. He secured 17,241 votes, while Ashok Sinha of the BJP got 14,039 votes.

The CPI(M) was trailing in its traditional bastion of Jubarajnagar to the BJP. After eight rounds of counting, BJP candidate Malina Debnath was leading by 4,320. She secured 18,381 votes, while her nearest candidate Shailendra Chandra Nath of the CPI(M) got 14,061 votes.

The BJP was leading in Surma as well with its candidate Swapna Das ahead by 1,806 votes after two rounds of counting. She got 4,457 votes, while CPI(M)‘s Anjan Das secured 2,651 votes.- PTI

AAP candidate Durgesh Pathak was leading the tally over his BJP rival Rajesh Bhatia by a margin of over 1,500 votes in the Rajinder Nagar Assembly bypoll, as counting of votes began on Sunday morning.

After the first round of counting, Mr. Pathak had secured nearly 64% of the votes counted, according to official data shared by authorities. Mr. Bhatia was behind him with 32.26% share of the votes counted in the first round.

Counting of votes for the bypolls to the Rampur and Azamgarh Lok Sabha constituencies in Uttar Pradesh is under way on Sunday amid tight security. The counting process started at 8 a.m.

In Azamgarh, Samajwadi Party candidate Dharmendra Yadav got into an argument with security personnel over alleged denial of entry in the strongroom. Mr. Yadav alleged that “an attempt is being made to change EVMs and that is why he was not allowed entry inside.” The SP leader was later allowed inside.

Superintendent of Police, Azamgarh, Anurag Arya said those entitled were allowed entry after “frisking”. “There was some confusion. Now he (Dharmendra Yadav) is inside and counting is going on smoothly,” the SP said.

The two constituencies voted on June 23, with Azamgarh recording a turnout of 49.43% and Rampur 41.39%. – PTI

Counting on for Mandar bypoll in Jharkhand

Counting of votes for the by-election to the Mandar Assembly seat in Jharkhand’s Ranchi district started at 8 a.m. on Sunday amid tight security, a senior official said. Counting of votes for the Sangrur Lok Sabha bypolls got underway at 8 a.m. Sunday amid tight security arrangements. The Lok Sabha seat had gone to poll on June 23, recording a low turnout of 45.30%.

The bypoll was necessitated due to the resignation of Bhagwant Mann from the Lok Sabha after he was elected as an MLA in the State Assembly elections earlier this year. Mr. Mann, who is the state’s chief minister now, had won the Sangrur seat in the 2014 and 2019 parliamentary elections. – PTI

Counting under way for Tripura bypolls amid tight security

Counting of votes was under way for the by-elections to the four Assembly seats in Tripura on Sunday amid tight security, officials said. The counting began at 8 a.m. for the bypolls to the Agartala, Town Bardowali, Surma and Jubarajnagar seats, held on June 23, they said.

The votes were being counted across three centres, they added. Over 78% of total 1,89,032 people had cast their votes in the elections. Twenty-two candidates are in the fray. – PTI

Counting of votes under way in 3 Lok Sabha, 7 Assembly seats

Counting of votes is under way on June 26 in three Lok Sabha and seven Assembly seats spread across five States and Delhi where bypolls were held on June 23. Counting began at 8 a.m. under multi-tier security cover. At first, postal ballots will be counted and then EVMs opened.
