n annual New Year’s Day Parade has kicked off in central London, with hundreds of thousands of people expected to turn out to watch the spectacle.
The procession started out at Piccadilly at midday on Sunday, and was set to make its way along Regent Street, through Trafalgar Square and to Whitehall.
It promises to see more than 8,000 performers, representing 20 nations, fill the West End with “culture, colour, spectacular entertainment, and amazing music”.

/ REUTERSNew Year’s Day marked the return of the annual parade, which has been cancelled for the last two years due to Covid restrictions.
Parade Director, Joe Bone, previously said he hopes the free-to-attend event will bring a much needed lift to all, as many Londoners struggling amid the financial crisis.
“We are all in it together.” said Joe. “The parade, which starts at 12 noon, can be enjoyed by communities across the capital – and on TV around the World. It’s our gift to London so make sure you get there early.”
